I received some Tickseed Coreopsis seeds today from a neighbor. I also got some Yellow Coreopsis seeds from her. (Is this a real species?) I heard that some species of Coreopsis produce sterile seed while some do not. Does anybody know how to save these? I'm guessing that they'll need a cold period in the freezer... :/

Asking if Coreopsis itself is a true species is actually a good question! Coreopsis is a Genus. But when I went and looked up more about itm turns out it is all twisted up and confused with Bidens. I actually thought something was strange.

The Tickseed Coreopsis we used to sell in Montana really looks more like a tough Bidens. I think it is! It is looking like Botanists have a tangled mess to clear up. Anyhow looks like what they are calling Coreopsis has about 80 species, but holy cats they don't seem to know where the monophyly ends and the paraphyly begins.

But if you are going by as being a wild species and not all crossed up by breeders I don't know.

Thank you for bringing it up. Caused me to look it up on Wikipedia to see if my suspicions were right. Yea, a conglomerated up Genus, set of Genera actually!

According to this, stratification isn't mentioned.

I think that both of them are supposedlywild species that haven't been massed with. I also don't know what type of tickseed coreopsis I have. My parents actually just came home from garage saleing with an A to Z Encyclopedia of garden plants done by the horticultral society. The book has over 1,000 pages. I looked up coreopsis and it looked pretty scary. :hide Thanks for the link, I think I'll just follow the directions and see what happens. In the mean time I'll try to find out exactly what type of coreopsis I have.
