How long can you keep seed potatos before planting? If I save some at the end of this growing season is it possible to keep them over winter or should I save the seeds from the flowers? I have read all the potato posts but can't find information on this particular question.

My dad saves the smallest potatoes from each harvest to plant out the next spring. When he pulls the potatoes in the fall, he lightly brushes them off, spreads them out thinly in a cardboard box, & sets them on a cool dim shelf in the garage.

He's in WA, so the weather is fairly cool but mild year 'round. I don't know if you'd have to do things differently in a colder/warmer climate.

We save the small potatoes, also. But I understand that my grandfather saved larger potatoes, then just cut and dried them at each eye at planting time.

No, you don't have to keep buying them. :)
