Carol, be careful quoting Huber as he HATES Monsanto and promotes even more dangerous chemicals--goes back to his days at Purdue. If you did some research on him and his thought processes, you would give him no respect due to his opinions. When asked why he he promotes known dangerous chemicals that caused ground sterilizition, he won't answer but go on "religious tirade".

I keep coming back to one thing. If Monsanto has ever done any scientifically valid testing of GMOs they have kept the results secret and they do everything they can to prevent independent studies, including attacking and destroying the careers of anyone who dares to publish anyhting critical of GMOs.

GMOs are "substantially equivalent" when they want to get them into the food supply, but they are "unique" when they want to get a patent. It just strikes me as fishy...

Thanks CD. That's an interesting article. Even though we DO have to take many things into consideration when reading a piece like that it sure grabs one's attention. People in that field of endeavor sometimes get a little strange . . .

I've been a little hesitant to discuss this little tid-bit because I don't know much about his involvement in GE/GM agriculture. But my brother-in-law (wife's sister's hubby) has been a chemist for Monsanto all his life. They recruited him from college and he quickly improved his position in their AG Research division. I do know that he was deeply involved in the development of Glyphosate for many years. He has been retired for several years now. They live 600 miles from us now and we do not see them often but when we did see them more (20 years ago) he was proud-as-punch to tell anyone who would listen about the wonderful things this product could do to greatly improve the AG-business' bottom line. Then, mysteriously, about 10 years ago, he got very quiet about his work and would dodge questions and make himself scarce whenever the Roundup topic came to the surface in family or social gatherings. In discussions with other family members I learned that he became obsessed with his work and eventually became a recluse. He would work 12 to 16 hours a day in the Monsanto labs and almost abandoned his immediate family. A very strange guy. And now he will not talk to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Not even his wife of 45 years. Maybe he was drinking the stuff :/ .

Smiles, that is very sad about your brother in-law. I wonder if he now has realized the dangers of all those chemicals and regrets wasteing all those years and the impact he had on people. I just wish someone could talk to him and help him. :(

Well I was not quoting anyone, just wanted to pass this on for others to read and decide what they thought. :idunno

Over on BYC the tagline to my signature reads, "When evaluating data one should always consider the source and remember, no one wants to make illegal that which he wants to do."

Instead of a long post I'll just ask one question, "What is the difference between genetically modifying something and cross breeding the same food crop?" :idunno

That's an easy one, all of the genes in a hybrid tomato came from other tomatoes. There's no way for a tomato to get genes from a fish outside of a lab. To me that is going to far. Others may not feel the same way, and I don't want to make GMOs illegal, I just want more objective testing (done by someone other than the company that stands to gain or lose millions of dollars in profits due to the results of the tests) and I want them labeled. This doesn't seem to be too much to ask.

A quick search says that never happened.
