At the feed store today I saw they had seed potatoes for 50 cents a pound. I looked at the labels and... Yukon Gold. *thud* I don't even want to THINK about how much I paid for those from Gurney's!!

Bummer, Wsmoak! I found really nice seed potatoes locally this year and they were much cheaper than the ones I was going to order. I wonder if more places are carrying them now because of the increase in people growing their own gardens?

our feed store has carried seed potatoes in about 8 different varieties for years. but they are the usual ones found throughout New England and when you want something 'different' you need to order from someone else. our store gets about .55 cents per lb or sometimes a little more depending on the type.

I found yukon gold at the nursery for $1 lb. I only need 5 to plant in a container for the kids. It came out to $1.50 and I was very pleased.

Seed potatoes at our local farm store has been around .50/lb, but last year someone must have goofed on their order. At the end of the potato planting season, they were selling 50lb bags for $5.00. They were already starting to sprout, but if I had the room, I would have bought a bag. They usually have yukon gold, and a white and red variety. I planted gold and red, and was very pleased with the result. This year I'm doubling the amount of space for potatoes.
