I planted my seeds in seed mix in half of a toliet paper tube. They have sprouted, but only have their first 2 leaves (not the true leaves). How long can they stay in the toilet paper tubes? Am I going to have to transplant them into something else at some point, or can they live in the tubes for the next month and then go out in the garden bed (while still in the tube)?

Many thanks,
Inchworm

Well my TP rolls rotted out quickly... I ended up transplanting most into 3" peat pots (2" for some of my smaller plants like flax and poppies).

The rest all didn't make it :(

If its only going to be 1 month until they go out they should be fine though... I think mine fell apart after a month had passed.

I had one fall apart, but the others seem ok. I think I'll make some paper pots as reinforcements for the tubes before anymore fall apart.

I have my seedings started in one of those seed starting trays that you have to pop the seedlings out of. Is there a good way to do this without hurting the roots? How many pairs of leaves should they have beofre I transplant them to pots?

Thanks for letting me tack this on to your question!

I waited until I had 2 true leaves and then took a unused pencil and pushed up from the bottom. I also used a baby spoon to help get all the soil out.

Good Luck!!!

It was beautiful here today so I took some of my seedlings outside for a couple of hours today to begin hardening them off.
I need to get the cabbage, broccoli, etc. ready to be planted outside. :thumbsup
