Has anyone here ever planted Seneca Chief sweet corn or know anything about it? I was talking to a man in Walmart's seed aisle last night who said everywhere he goes he looks for it, that his parent's used to grow it when he was young. I told him the internet might give him better luck, but I don't think he was too up on that.

So, it got me curious since he said it was really good, old fashioned sweet corn flavor. I only found one possible source for it here which says it is reportedly a hybrid, but may have originally been an heirloom and maybe could be de-hybridized.

I felt really bad for that fella that he couldn't find his favorite corn. I wish I could have been more help.

Journey, Mandy is the only source I know as well. My understanding is that it was a hybrid and some folks who saved their own seed likely dehybridized it possibly unaware and this could lead to confusion as the seed sources dwindle as it falls out of fashion and seed gets passed around from sources saving their own seed. There are other possibilities though.

Thanks, @Smart Red for checking. That is not the same one, unfortunately. I've seen a couple corns with "Seneca" somewhere in the title. Maybe they are related crosses. I guess with this one being a hybrid and being phased out, there isn't going to be much if any of it still out there. The one listing I found was 2014 and may pan out. Wonder what the parent crosses were? Not much info out there. Oh well, just curiosity to see if I could find it. It sounded like a good corn to try.

That name is so familiar....seems to me that somebody on TEG grew it.
Or maybe I just made that up....???

That's what I was thinking, that I had heard it mentioned here before. But a search didn't turn anything up.
