Being housebound, my observations of fall leaves This year are limited to my PT trips and the "Why didn't I chop these maple saplings and the Other saplings down when I had time this summer?!?!?"
They Mock me with their current red and yellow leaves!!!!

Maple saplings are a huge issue here too. They continue to ocreep along the perimeter of the pastures. They grow like weeds and a yearly issue keeping them in check is always worth the time. Same with the wild blackberries that I have seen roll across pastures covering everything in their path .

negative when scooping up and mulching tons of fallen leaves .

Throw rhizomes, or any hardy perennial you have success with, on top of (paper) bags of leaves, neatly surround with a perimeter of straw bales. Let snow mulch the top. In the following spring, voila : a raised perennial bed.

My sugar maple went in stages this year. Part of it stayed green, and I knew by the time that part turned, the first part would have fallen off.

@Lichnus Yes of course Anna’s dwarf is a perfect small dwarf tree for gardens. I’ve seen variegated dwarf ginkgos , quite showy . Or tiny bonsai if you have time for training a tiny tree. I have a special place in my heart for bonsai but I can’t seem to develop the patience or discipline for the art of bonsai.
