I have been afraid that many to most of my perennials and shrubs were lost to last year's severe drought. So far, so good. . . . I see new growth on my Golden Deep forsythia - tiny thing that it was - as well as on my two honey berry varieties.
The dwarf iris I received in a trade last spring - decapitated by those putting up soffit and gutters - is also popping out. Yippy yi-oh! I still have lots of plants to check as spring progresses, but these I thought were goners so this is a big positive.
On the gardening side, my raised beds are so loose and fluffy that, despite last night's rainfall, I was able to rake and spread compost on one today. I am in right now for a rest. I can't work as well as I once could, but I can and do plod along at my own speed until what I want gets done. I intend to plant some early veggies in the prepared bed once I've fed DH and caught my breath.
It is beginning to feel like spring in earnest because I'm finally getting into the garden. Tomorrow and Thursday we are expecting rain, rain, and more rain - another inch or two. Not to complain if the weather acts spring-like. I'm just tired of 30's and 40's.
Make that 3-5 more inches in the next three days. Gone the sun!
