I'm always planting seeds getting nothing. My daughter bought a few plants and now she has so many volunteer plants that they are "weeds" according to her. So I just transplanted about 12 or so. My question is:

Hers send runners below ground and new plants are coming off of them. Is there such a thing as perennial snap dragons?

Seedcorn, snapdragons ARE perennials.

Antirrhinum majus is a Mediterranean native so, a zone 5 winter is usually too tough for them. They can get thru here if people have them right up against the house foundation.

The problem you have with the seed may be because it is so small - like dust! After you imagine that you have sown it, you have to imagine that you sprinkle a little soil on it.

I have it volunteer in the front yard every year. I hate to kill it but it will certainly pack itself in and then grow tiny. The flowers are nearly always pink - not my favorite. I find some of the reds absolutely stunning. And, the whites can be HUGE!

Explains 2 questions......thanks.

Wonder if I cover them if they'll come up again next year. She got 1 red, 1 white and the rest are pinks.

In Indiana, we've been treating them like an annual. Who would have thought?

So when do I collect the seeds? When the bloom fades, do the seeds drop?

Steve, I have a GREAT imagination. I know that carrot seeds are like that. You know, this is just one of those gardening skills that you have to learn by doing.

I plant fine seeds like carrots by sprinkling them where I want them to grow and then lightly running an iron rake over the spot. The seeds fall into the shallow furrows left by the rake and the first watering seems to wash just the righ amount of soil over them.
