Having a garage helps, of course, but it is a matter of safety. Clean windows are needed to be a safe driver. I've driven with a snowy roof and trunk, but the plates and lights always get a cleaning as well.
I think there is one here but it's often ignored when we get thick snow, which isn't all that often. I personally always scrap it off the windows and off the car itself. I want to see where I'm going, that's for my benefit. I've seen sheets of snow a few inches thick slide off a car traveling on a busy road and the car right behind get startle and do some dangerous things trying to avoid it. Removing sheets of snow off my vehicle is for other people's benefit.
There was actually a lady killed in our area by a huge hunk of snow/ice flying off the car ahead of her. It broke the windshield and hit her.
I have had my car hit by snow and ice but not enough to do damage, fortunately.
NH has it too. similar situation here where someone was killed from a chunk of ice coming off an 18 wheeler that ignored that it was covered in ice & heavy snow.
when i owned my S-10 years ago i was always thinking of the people that could get behind me. i had a soft tonneau cover on the back and a toolbox so i had a lot to clear off besides the hood, window and top of cab, but i always did it. i kept a large push broom handy for that!
i don't know why people don't at least uncover their hood & windshield since as you're driving that stuff will just keep blowing into your visibility and cake on the windshield if it is still wet but cold enough to keep freezing back up.
