I direct sowed some beets and brocoli this week. But my seeds starting skill are minimal. I know that when you plant in a peat pot you don't want to seeds to dry out. So with the direct sowing does that mean I water every day to keep the seeds moist. Keep in mind that it is still so freaking hot here.

Yes, and if it is really hot and bake-y it is even possible you may need to water twice. If you can set up some temporary shade over the seedlings that can help a lot (feasible in small home garden, not always as feasible in, like, 3/4-acre market garden :p) and/or scatter some dried grass clippings or something like that around the plants to mulch the soil.

This is why I am not very good at direct-sowing seeds, I tend to have a single lapse of attention just once and BAM everything is flat and crispy :p You really have to keep up with 'em, it doesn't take much to kill a wee little seedling. But I have an unusually poor attention span for coddling in-the-ground seeds and you will doubtless be more responsible about it than I am :p

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
