Soil Test Results

Since we had soil delivered for the raised beds, I picked up a test kit in town today so we could see how the soil tests.

Here are the results ....

pH: 7
Nitrogen: Very Low
Phosphorus: Medium/High
Potash: Low

Now I'll be looking into how to improve the soil!

Was it top soil you had delivered or compost?

Also, I don't trust those test that you buy at the gardening centers. Did you think about sending some to the extension office for testing just to confirm so you don't go though so much work for nothing?

Just my thoughts...

Alfalfa pellets are about 5-1-2, NPK.

Soybean meal, 7-1-3.

Whitney Farms Organic Lawn Food, 8-2-4.

Don't worry too much about the nitrogen. that's such a "here today gone tomorrow nutrient that a lot of soil labs don't even test for it and it's easily added during the growing season. You should think about getting the potash and phosphorus levels up though. They are both easily available in chemical form or if you want organic sources you could try bone meal.
