Having a problem with planters at work. Something is digging up the plants. I used fresh bagged soil so don't think there are grubs in them. I know there are squirrels, chipmunks, mice and birds here. Who is most likely the digger?

It could be any of those or others. It's hard to say over the internet. Could you describe the damage a bit clearer?

When I lived in suburbia and before I took over 50 squirrels out of my back yard in less than a month, squirrels would dig up anywhere I disturbed the ground. That might be where I transplanted a tomato or sowed carrot seeds. I don't like bushy tailed rats when they overpopulate.

If you can't eliminate the source. You might try covering the soil in the planters with hardware cloth with holes cut for the plants. But if they are just pulling up the plant that might not help.

I think it's probably squirrels. I used to put chicken wire around my containers with trees or blueberries to stop it. But now that I've been using wood chips which are in fairly large pieces and heavier than the stuff in bags, I don't have a problem.
