Today I changed out my coop decor. I took down the snowflakes and snowmen, and put out spring flowers!!

Oh, I missed taking down that plastic from the front window!! I will have to do that tomorow.

While I was outside today, thinking about enlarging my chicken run. I heard these loud bird noises, I had never heard them before, I looked up and saw two Hawks in the huge pine tree that is over the chicken coop and run area. I went in the house to get the camera, and the female hawk took off. But the male stayed in the Pine tree makng a horrible racket. Here he is, if you can see him, he was pretty far up in the tree.

Nice chicken coop rebbetzin!

I would definitely keep an eye on those hawks, don't want them going near your coop.

Your coop is darling, Rebbetzin. Did your hubby make that for you?
What?! Mr. NO CHICKENS!

I made it pretty much all by myself, with the help of one friend for a few days. She did lend me her cordless power screwdriver for the entire project, of which I will be eternally grateful!!

I do have a page on BYC that shows the process I went through to build it. And it was a PROCESS!! I had never built anything before really. I designed it as I was going along! (I will never do that again!)

Here is a link to my coop constuction page,

Of course, now he is saying "NO GOATS!"

I would love to see their winter decor.
I must have winter photos of the coop. I will look...

That is odd... Maybe the winter decor doesn't look so great in a photo. I thought I had taken some winter photos, but....Let me look on my Backup Photo CDs here...

I find it impossible to believe I have never taken a Winter photo of the coop.

I found them! Now I have to put them in Photobucket and transfer them to here.

Ok, this is how it looked for the winter. I will give you the virtual tour.

This is walking from the back of the house, the pallet fence is suppose to have ivy growing on it, at some point.

I put a snowman on the decorative knob on the gate.

On the corners of the roof I put a couple more little snowmen
This is on the North corner.

This is the South corner.

You notice we have to "pretend" to have winter here. Most years, things stay pretty green in the winter.

This is the West side of the coop looking back towards the house.

I got all these decorations at the dollar store. Every year I find fun things to add to my collection of "stuff" to decorate the coop. I was driving by a house one day and they had an artificial Christmas tree in a box on the curb. I stopped and they were throwing it away. I use it as the greenery along the side of the coop.

You did a great job on your coop Reb, you should be very pleased with your design abilities!
Did you cut out the letters your self also?
Wait until you get goats, Mr. No Goats will be smitten! Who can resist a goat? My hubby even likes them, and he's about as far from being a farmer as you can get! Of course I was a milkmaid when he met me...
( love me... love my goats you know! )

I got the letters at Joann's Fabric and Crafts, I did have to modify them to fit the space above the egg box.

As it is my husband tells me each egg costs about $5.00 when he factors in the cost of my "free" coop. I planned on using discard stuff for the coop... but I really had to buy some stuff, and I never did sit down and add up how much it really cost to build it. He says he figures it was over $500.00, I don't think I spent that much, but, I may have, Hardware cloth was the most expensive thing, and the entire run is made of it.

We really don't have any room for goats in our yard. Well, maybe a Nigerian Dwarf, or pygmy type. But I would need to spend a few bucks on a nice small barn, and a very secure corral area. And you have to have at least two goats. And there are the babies every year of so... Right now I have it great, I go milk one day a week. My friend with the goats is glad to have a day off from milking. And it only costs my time, and get about a gallon of milk a week. Which is enough for me and the chickens. My husband swears the goat milk, after couple of days of drinking it, makes his urine smell "goatie!"

So now I am the only one drinking ithe goat milk. Maybe I should get a small cow instead? Though now that I have been drinking the goat milk, cow milk taste weird. It tastes like hay or straw to me now.
