Debut of the summer squash to follow cabbage:

I should have turned the one sticker around; it says "Spineless." @ninnymary might have decided to try that one but maybe I can give a report on it.

The Jackpot already in the garden may have fruit soon. It's something new for me. Goldrush is also out there and it has done well for several seasons. I want you to notice the other sticker: "Cube of Butter."

I have never even heard of it! How could I resist that name -- the gardener who actually avoids eating summer squash ;).

They will have a little shade from the cabbage plants for a couple of weeks when they go in the garden. However, the Jersey Wakefield cabbage looks like it is hitting harvest stage soon.

My Spineless Beauty has spines! So disappointed and it has only produced 1 zucchini. Still on the quest for that elusive spineless squash. I don't know what other type of zucchini I planted but I really need to find the smallest bush possible.

Mine are "Garden Spineless Hybrid."

There is no claim to beauty or even cuteness. Maybe the purveyor will be honest about the spiny characteristic.

I was weeding in the garden zucchini this evening. I have one 3+ inch Jackpot zucchini and several on the Goldrush!

And, out into the garden they have gone!

The seedlings all had second leaves. Roots were soaked and the garden soil was wet. They got the soft hands treatment from @digitS' .

Extremely hot this afternoon so I'm really trusting their near neighbors, the early cabbage, to protect them from the harsh sunlight.

Had to move a perilla plant here when I expanded a compost pile. One of these days I'll come up with a kitchen use for shiso beyond just admiring the colorful volunteers.

Have begun harvesting the early cabbage.

The Jersey Wakefield is so quick! Even getting the cabbage in late this year, that variety is coming out about the right time.

Now, the second planting of summer squash has a chance to claim their own space.
