Tring to eat more fruit, last night I picked up a star fruit which I never had before. Was very juicy but very sour. Are they suppose to be sour or was it not ripe. Had a papaya also was light pink and tasteless, was it ripe?

I LOVE papayas from Hawaii. I am willing to pay $2.98 each for them. Costco sometimes has them and they come out to $1.67 each. I got hooked on them years ago when we would go to Hawaii every year. There was a buffet breakfast with them and I was in heaven. I don't like the big ones from Mexico though. A lot of people do. To me, they just aren't as flavorful. They seem bland and not very sweet.

I've never had star fruit so can't help you there.

I know for sure now star fruit was not ripe,it was green all over, ripe would have been yellow. That is the problem tiring new things, is not knowing when ripe.

Well don't give up. Try a ripe one and let us know how it tastes.

I didn't like papaya until years ago, I went to Thailand. There its a staple and they are LAYING AROUND ALL OVER THE GROUND!! I learned to love it, but gosh it has to be dead ripe to like it.

Yeah, the mexi large ones are rather tasteless. Mary: Ranch 99 has papayas and they are wonderful if you let them sit on the countertop with a few bananas around, to ripen fully.

I've had ripe star fruit also in Thailand. Its slightly sweet.
