Started My 2019 Plants Today

Actually I did my pre planting routine on Friday when I filled my growing cells with potting soil.
I have a bunch of Jiffy grow trays and I fill used 4 cell containers with soil. I place the containers in the grow tray with the soil in them, then I fill the bottom of the tray with water and let the water soak into the soil from the bottom.
In about 24 hrs. the cells are soaked to the top.
I did one tray today and have about 12 four cell containers with tomato, 1 Black Beauty eggplant, 1jalapeno pepper and 1 with Calif. Wonder peppers.
I put a clear lid on the tray and set it in my growing cabinet. I'll see what happens in a couple or 3 weeks.

Good luck with the 2019 season, sounds like the kickoff was successfull. We won’t start vegetables until or about March 10th.

I was just wandering around the yard yesterday thinking, "it's February 17. The anniversary of the time I started seed too early!"

It was below zero weather that morning. I should have known that after another two months, the temperatures wouldn't be warm enough for half of what was started on that day.

RICH, didn't you once start things on New Year's Day?

I just walked by my grow cabinet and it looked like I had a few starts.
I pulled the cover off and there are actually a bunch of starts. Not too bad for just planting them about a week ago.
So far it looks like about a third of the cells have germinated, tomatoes mostly, in fact tomatoes only.
I wondered how good of a germination rate I would get, as these seeds are at least a year old and some are more than 2 years old.

Today I pulled out the cells that had 4 or more starts in them. Eight of the 15 cells were eligible for the upgrade.
I now have the cells with multiple starts, uncovered, under my grow lights and built up so they don't get too lanky.
I'll up pot them when they get 2 real leaves on them.

in the unheated greenhouse. (Nothing up) Tomorrow is the day for filling and soaking some containers for peppers, indoors.

I now have 10 of my 15 cells out in the open under the grow lights. About the only things that haven't germinated so far are the peppers and egg plant, actually a couple of the peppers have a couple of starts in their cells.
My local farm supply store just got their seeds, bulbs and root plants in, I picked up a few rhubarb roots and I'm gonna try and keep them "happy" until it's time to plant them. They're kinda pricy at $5 a root.
