stepping on onions

i've heard i need to step on my onions to break down the tops so they will grow bigger. they are vidalia and red. is this right? thanks, rich

No, don't step on them to make them 'grow big'. I think they were referring to bending over the tops when they're starting to turn brown just before harvest.
