Do not let ANYBODY talk you into planting an Ash Tree. They're gonna try to guilt you into it, because it's a native tree, the white flowers are SSSSOOOOOO pretty in the Spring...blah, blah, blah.
THIS is what I woke up to yesterday morning--

The previous owner did some nice things, but HE planted 3 of these suckers. Every ONE of them has lost limbs, which get too heavy and crash to the ground. I DON'T know how, but none have hit the house, a car, or the garage. If they had, it would have been property damage in the THOUSANDS of dollars. I am also VERY fortunate--I have 5 acres, a burn pile and can legally dry this out to make a bonfire, at my leisure.
Just imagine what this sized limb could do to YOUR house, in the middle of the winter, in our economic climate?
BTW, there wasn't any storm, and nobody ran a car or truck into this tree, E V E R. :barnie

Ash are beautiful trees but they are very prone to splitting, especially if they get a snow load.

I feel your pain! Someone planted this neighborhood FULL of stupid bradford pear trees for the pretty flowers. All the limbs split and fall all the time.

We had to take down BOTH on our property.

And of course WHERE did they plant these stupid things, right next to everyone's driveway. :rant There have been several trees to come down in the last 2 years, and a few cars have been hit. One bad storm not long ago split and rampaged about 5 trees in the neighborhood. 2 still have limbs on the ground.

What is it with people planting iffy fast growing trees that are known to cause damage if planted in the wrong spot. Those are trees better off as a wind breaker planted far away from personal property.

I feel your pain!
