heres the story...
5 weeks ago 2 new trash cans showed up at the driveway, okay dw and i thought that the nextdoor neighbors were turning in their cans, well the cans just sat there for a week then hurricane florence came through and tossed them onto the edge of their property, they picked them up and placed along the edge of the driveway...

okay 3 weeks ago dw calls republic waste and asked why are there 2 new cans sitting up there, the lady asked for the address could not answer why they were dropped here, but that they would come out and pick them up she apologised. no harm no foul.. and they did pick them up the following day

yesterday which is our regular trash pick up, once getting home thanked the dw for bring down the cans, dw.... said no they picked them up...
me.. um we are payed up right?

dw....yes we are, she called them and asked why, somehow a duplicate request on the pick up of the cans and it would be 2-4 weeks before new cans would be delivered and just put the trash on the curb and the drive will pick it up and we will receive 2 months free pick up...

me....yeah right like he going to get out of the truck to pick up trash bags.... overpaid lazy pos's
hell no that's not going to work...

dw.. that's what they said....

me..got on the phone with my commercial rep and asked for the regional residential manager number she asked why and explained why. could hear her typing away...

rep....yup yup it could take a week or two to get new cans to you...

me....so you are saying that even though it was not our fault we have to haul off our trash? thats not going to work, how about you request a 3 yard dumpster be delivered till the new cans be delivered..

can hear typing away....
rep...i have sent an email to expedite cans for you ,it might be a week. you going to be available next week to talk about contracts.

me ..yes

got home today how about that 2 brand new cans sitting at the house, dw said that they delivered them to the house while she was out shopping.

dw.... asked how come you got the cans out here so fast, while i was told 2-4 weeks????

me...explained to her it's all about who you know, plus we have 3 locations up for renewal in 100 days, oh golly gee whiz who does she need to talk with about renewals.....yup you guest it..:thumbsup

damn don't know how to act 2 spanking new cans, hate to get them dirty....

@majorcatfish wait, you have a contract for thrash pickup? Here it's the municipality that takes care of it, they have a contract with a company that does this for them. And we pay the municipality a yearly fee.

Many towns and cities have that same arrangement. Trash service is provided through the city and citizens are billed by the city. In rural areas, people are pretty much on their own and may be able to choose from several companies for their trash service.

Around here, trash service ain't cheap. I just haul my own off for 50 cents a bag. I can take it twice a week if I need too. Much, much cheaper than contracting for trash pickup.

We did contract out for a while, but the service was very unreliable. I just do it myself.

We take care of our own also. We have free transfer stations for residents.
Free for household trash anyway, commercial or construction debris is by the ton.

We have had the same waste removal company for a number of years. There is another waste removal company that services our area, they just come on a different day. Out of curiosity, I called the other company because I thought we were paying too much for trash removal. The other company charges seventeen dollars a month less so we called the company we had to switch services and they said: "oh, we match prices you can have that rate."
The savings is more than $200 a year, for trash removal! Let's face it, trash removal is trash removal, there are no quality/service issues involved.
The savings is in excess of a thousand dollars over five years and both companies have been servicing this area for much more than five years, so it pays to ask for competitive pricing, I just wish I had done so sooner.

okay here at the house and the town we are picked up by republic waste < residential division > which we get billed directly through them.
if you go further out in the country you will find convenience stations...
now if you live in a city yes the city picks up the trash, have noticed that many cities are doing away with their trash dept and going to either republic or waste management....

down at work we use republic waste <commercial division> as well, by having 3 of our locations rolled into a single contract we get a better rate. free dumpsters, first 2 tons free, and lower tonnage rates.

in a nutshell i was calling my comerical rep to get ahold of the residential manager number since any time you call you get a card reader from some call center.
was going to give that manger a ear full, but my rep did a wonderful job getting us new cans.

yes i did call her and thanked her for getting cans to us.. this thursday we will be having our meeting...

We have Republic services here in Merlin OR. Its $37 a month. They pick up the trash can (small one) every week and the recycle (large blue one) every other week. They reduced the things we can recycle down to:

corrugated cardboard
cans without lids
milk jugs.

Nothing else. Glass, mail, lids, plastic bottles all go to the dump. China stopped taking the US stuff, so now since America doesn't have any sort of infrastructure for recycling, its all coming to a screeching stop.

it's around 34-37 a month here, trash and recycles are the same day, recycles we give them everything, glass, cans, plastic jugs,cardboard....we burn all our mail...

kind of sucks having 2 new cans the same size, the old ones were lg for trash and sm for recycles, you had to put the small one in front of the lg one otherwise the recycle truck zoomed by, hopefully the cycle driving is not color blind both cans are the same size and color just different colored lids...guess we shall see this wednesday..
