Hi,
I was suddenly hit, out of the blue, by an entire peach tree going ripe. This tree had its limbs hanging across the fence on two sides just to support all the fruit.
Last year the fruit became ripe in August.
I walked outside and suddenly a swarm of giant Emerald Scarab June Beetles (not sure what to call them, they are gorgeous) They started attacking the fruit so it was time.
I spent the entire first half of the day in that tree. All the fruit is picked and any mushy or eaten fruit went to my chickens.
This picture minus one full basket that went immediately to the Landlady's house.
This evening I will be washing and separating degrees of ripeness and I will only do 12 quart jars for myself. The rest of the fruit has to be distributed to friends and family. I just sent out two full grocery bags out the door and my phone is ringing. LOL
I wish you all were closer, I am tickled peaches !!
This peach is a bit baffling. I got two plums and two peaches on sale a few years ago and this was suppose to be Ft. Sam Houston. My landlady says that this is a cross from a Peach and a Nectarine. Could be, I don't know, and it could have been a mixed lot I was purchasing from. The meat is white and the flavor is between a peach and an apple mixed together. Almost subtle in the sweetness then realizing it is kind of too sweet.
OK, that is my latest dilemma. My hair is sopping wet and I am drenched. The only reason to be online is that my next arrival for peaches is due here soon and I might take my feet up a bit. LOL
Take Care. Thinking of everyone's incredible harvests !
Ron
