Thank you, I really liked this article and it makes me think more about my choices for the garden and what I have room for. Also, I know what to look for organic at farmers' markets! :)

Its good info to have and it feels good to know that on the dirty dozen list I grow all of my own except the cherries, but I don't buy them at the store either.

I read that awhile ago.

In fact it made me stop buying non-organic produce at the store.

Now I only grow my own, buy organic, or buy from the local organic farms.

And if it isn't at those three sources, I don't buy it!

Wow, that is so depressing. I eat an apple or a pear everyday and I buy them from - guess who? Wal-Mart. I've never seen WM sell anything organic except carrots. :/

I have found that organic produce is equal too or sometimes less pricey than "traditional" produce.

It pays to shop around and be very choosy when selecting apples for instance. Some can be very squishy. But I feel better consuming them.

I also get a kick out of the supermarket checkers always having to look up the 4-digit produce code for whatever I buy. That tells me that not too many people buy organic produce, otherwise they would have the codes memorized.

Now when I see "traditional" apples at the store, I keep getting an image of the witch in snow white with her poison apple.

It really makes me want to plant more fruit trees- that seems to be the hardest to find in organic. Isn't it crazy that anyone ever thought it was a good idea to spray poison on FOOD!!!! Ugh!

The 20th century was full of "good" ideas wasn't it?

Like microwavable food, high-fructose corn syrup, fast food, pepsi, coke, etc.....

I love poking around my local little hardware store, except for one aisle. The one with all of the gopher, insect repellants and pesticides. Makes me sick just smelling that aisle. Ugh!

Beavis, the minute you mentioned that smell- my nose curled! I know just the odor you are talking about! Enough with the "good" ideas already!

Yup, me too. I have one pear tree that I just planted a couple of months ago, a fig tree that has LOTS of figs on it and one plumb that's just not doing well.
