I got the toy box at a garage sale for $3
I spray painted it black with the type of paint specifically made to bond to plastic. Not only does it make it not look like an old toy box, it will help heat the soil and hopefully keep the plants happy.
The cover is some plastic leftover from the quail pen and the supports are made out of suckers from my Japanese crap apple tree held together with bailing wire.
Total cost, $6. Add another $8 for dirt, peat moss, etc...
The cream containers are there to act as a little extra heat source at night. It got down to 28 last night and these guys were just fine.
