Earlier this year, I recieved an assortment of seeds from a very kind gardener. In the pack was a package marked "mystery seeds". They looked like cucumber seeds.....only larger. She said that she wasn't sure exactly what kind of seeds they were, for sure, and to just be prepared for "vining". Soooooo...I started the plants in pots and set out in the garden, when all threats of frost were gone, with a trellis. This morning, I made a surprising discovery. Looks like we're gonna have melons of some kind. So far I have found 2 of them in the mass of vines......I bet there is more. The vines are LOADED down with flowers. This is gonna be real interesting.

Just guessing but I've seen honeydew/cantelope crosses that looked like that.

My cantalope last year was very green up until the last minute... super juicy but tasted like nothing :/ So I wonder if its a cross like hoodat thinks?

I guess the proof will be in the tasting. If it tastes good save the seeds and try them again next year. Who cares what to call it? If it's something new you can give it your own name. A rose by any other name etc.

Yep, Gonna call em....Ms M's cantaloupes. If it winds up being a melon.....well, I'll have to think about a new name.

Possibly a melon. I would not rule our winter squash yet. Delicata seeds are like you described and the fruit looks a bit like that. Maybe a Delicata cross or close relative?

This is from a Delicata I saved the seeds from last year. From the size and shape, I'm pretty sure it crossed with something. Not sure what. I think it is too big and round for a Delicata. The plant is closer to bush type than vining.
