Last year I was captivated by PBS's Sherlock. LOVED IT!
The season premiere was last night - did anyone else watch it? What did you think? I was disappointed at best.

I watched it. But it didn't get my full attention because I had my lap top (is that one word, or two?) on top of my lap.
I find that the re-made classics tend to just annoy me more than anything. But it was better than the episode of Columbo that was our other choice. Well, the other choice besides just turning the darn thing off.

What made it so disappointing for you Cane?

I tend miss things until it's a little late, Cane'. What didn't you like? I got about the last 20 minutes, at best.

Last year, I missed most of the season because I didn't know what it was about. Found the show one day and realized they have Sherlock & Watson in the modern world! What I saw last season felt so new and was fun!

When I was in high school, I read everything the local libraries had that Conan Doyle wrote about Sherlock & Watson. The first thing I downloaded to this new tablet was "A Scandal in Bohemia." Then, I read a mini-biography of Thomas Jefferson.

Holmes was no Jefferson. His skills were highly refined but I think that Watson makes a greater "hero" than Holmes just for putting up with the detective and his obsessions. Besides the "horrible wall paper," I think we can almost see how Holmes has been "prettified" and what role Watson has in this new production.

That is almost as bad as the wall paper in the women's restroom in the McDonalds in Vienna, IL. It's red and gold. I feel like I'm in a bordello when I go in there.

NMG - SPOILER ALERT (if you're planning to watch tonight)

Thistle, last season it was clever and fast paced and made me think. It was all about solving a mystery... sort the POINT of the story I think.
In the one last night, the mystery was barely a sub-plot. Half of the show focused on Watson coming to grips with the fact that Holmes didn't actually die 2 years earlier (when the last season ended). And the other half was a series of weird recreations of the producers envisioning the details of HOW Holmes could have survived the end of last season - just sort of shoved in like "Sherlock commercials". It was kind of jarring to be watching the show, and suddenly be watching a couple of guys discussing the ending of last season and then a brief re-shoting of the last scenes showing the 'behind the scenes' that would have had to happen ..... It was just NOT up to the level of last season.... and NOT worth staying up so late to watch. :-(

Steve, you did pretty good by only catchign the last 20 mins - probably the best of the whole 2 hrs - and most like the older shows.

I did not watch it, I only saw a few partial episodes last season so didn't get hooked. I do like the other show on CBS I think, Elementary, I know they take a lot of poetic liscense w/ the character (female Watson and Moriarti ) but I still find it entertaining.

Okay, I should have paid more attention to it if I'm really going to comment here, but I didn't understand the reason they went to such extremes to keep Watson from knowing Sherlock was alive. It seemed ludicrous to me to be able to plan such an elaborate scene (Sherlock falling off the roof) when there were so many variables that would have made any one of those necessary intersecting actions too early or too late.

My husband loves it...but me...not so much. Yes, the wallpaper is ...horrid!! :sick Very distracting. And it seems like the character Sherlock, talks way too fast.

I've not seen it, but I love all those PBS mini-series. We have digital "bunny ears" (don't watch much TV), but I guess our PBS must be underfunded or something because we haven't been getting the extra 2 PBS channels lately. I can get the reruns on Netflix though.

Hey, that's the little dude who played Bilbo in the Hobbit. :)
