Theresa's garden

We were at the garden center checkout register at Home Depot today and my wife made an impulse purchase. Right next to the register they had a stack of City Picker Patio Garden Kits. My wife, Theresa, has never been an active gardener, but perhaps she is following Ava's example and taking an interest in gardening. Following the instructions, I planted what she wanted in "her" garden. I needed potting mix, dolomite and fertilizer. Once set up, it should need no attention other than watering for the entire season. You simply add water until it comes out of the overflow holes on the side every few days. It seems reasonable, and it looks like it will warm the soil, curtail weeds and conserve moisture. The guide said it would hold 2 to 3 eggplant, but I very much doubt that. My experience is that the plants need 36 inch spacing. Has anyone any experience with these? Below is a link to the HD site and a photo.

A friend of mine grew tomatoes in one last year. She was happy with it.

So Jack, if it's your wifes garden, shouldn't she plug the plants in herself? Or maybe she's taking baby steps...

It is cute and probably a good thing for apartment/balcony gardening. With 30 acres, I wouldn't give it a try.

I think that is what it was intended to be, a city dweller's garden. How are the Florida Petite tomatoes doing?

Mine are up in their nursery Jack. They won't be in their "home" pots for a few weeks yet.

So far we are satisfied with the City Picker garden, as it is doing what the literature says it would do. The plants are growing quickly, other than watering it, it has required no maintenance at all.

I have the same green bamboo poles in my garden. Why do they paint them? It gets all over my hands when I touch them and it comes off over time. A complete waste of money and resources. The eggplant looks awesome. Mine are much smaller. I just planted them yesterday.
