So far, of the 10 purple seeded golden podded peas I planted outside on March 16th, I see 6 sprouting!

Among that first group of 20 cells of rare late maturing pole beans I planted last week, 13 are sprouting! That 2nd group of 30 cells I only planted 3 days ago, maybe one is bulging up the soil a bit.

I have tomato and banana peppers sprouting inside. I have black-eyed susans and forget-me-nots that will hopefully be sprouting soon.

...and I forgot to count my tayberry, loganberry, local blackberry, unusual leaved local blackberry, indian summer raspberry, fall gold raspberry, boysenberry, burbank thornless blackberry, Navajo thornless blackberry, dewberry, and wild salmonberry.

Also, the 2 saved Tyfon Holland Greens variety of turnip are commencing to bloom for to make me fresh seeds, and my grape rootstocks are sprouting, and only see life on one of the bud grafts so far.

My potatoes are up, I set out tomatoes, squash, eggplant and peppers. Lettuce is fizzling out for the season. Picked the first mess of English peas yesterday. Corn is 1 1/2 inches high. Cleaned out the collard beds, picked all the collards and pulled up the ones that were bolting. I have a couple of collard plants that are 2 1/2 years old and still producing.

All but one of the first 20 cells of beans are up now, and about 7 of the second 30 bunch of cells are sprouting also.

So this morning I gave them some fresh slightly warm water after taking them off the heat pad and removing the plastic cover, and set them in my garden, and put the plastic top back on. It was 48 degrees in the shade, but I put them in a light spot. They will go outside like this during the days and back in at night for about a month.

If they do become too large for the packed cells I'll split them into 2 flats, separated with soil between them. They will probably be planted outside around the 1st of May.

These are the rare late maturing beans. I packed the best seeds of them to send to Russ Crow, and even these are giving a great germination percentage. Some of these were what I call "premies".

Kind of excited that Blue Gold Star and Night Star should produce a lot more than last year, planting the seeds 5 weeks sooner inside plus having them sprout more than twice as fast as last year. This should give them about 6 more weeks of production this year than last year. Course, last year's season did not completely end until December, but I am prepared to house up a frame and plastic cover for them if the season ends earlier this year.

The kind of thing a gardener can learn to do after gardening in barely zone 4, sometimes zone 3 Montana, where ya learn the importance of season extending at both ends. And oh shoot, coming back to California, wow! Planting peas March 16th!

Some of my seeds might sprout, if I were to actually plant them in some dirt...With the cold winds blowing and the snowflakes coming down, I am finding it very hard to get motivated! I did manage to fill some little pots with dirt yesterday.

Lesa I feel your pain! It is warmer out and MOST snow is gone. But the ground is way too cold and still frozen several inches down. :( DH got spring fever early and has lots of tomatoes, peppers, watermelon , squash and 1 pumpkin going in the basement under grow lights. Teh cold frames are up and waiting for time to move things out.
