I have one chicken that consistantly lays eggs that are too big
for any carton or tray.

Wow!!!

That chicken should be bred to a rooster who has sisters that lay xx large eggs too!

Maybe you have a new breed on your hands!

You would think, with only four chickens, I could figure out which one is laying such huge eggs.
But... I am never out there to catch them laying!

Figuring out which one it is can be a challenge. I've seen some stay on the nest for over an hour and leave nothing behind when they got off. I wish you luck on that one.

Have you cracked one? It looks like a double yolker.

Rebbetzin, isn't on of your hens a barred rock? i've heard they tend to have an occasional XL egg. have any of these eggs been double yolked? and are you finding the 'wind' eggs that follow? those are the tiny eggs that usually have no yolk. i get tiny ones on occasion but they may have an itty bitty yolk or no yolk at all.

Do those follow the plus size eggs? I didn't know that...I've only found one of those so far. I thought it was a special lo fat "diet" egg!

I lost my last Barred Rock last summer... she was about 4 years old.

None of the big ones have been double yolked. I find I only have double yolks when they first start laying, same with "wind eggs", they seem to occur with young hens. I have gotten many "weird" eggs over the years. But lately, these extra large ones are becoming the "norm."

I did change feed a while back to a feed that has Oyster shell, sratch, and a Premium crumble. The hens love it!
