if and when they allow you to have chickens Marshall, you could use an electric hot wire around the run area to help keep predators out. i haven't used one before but i've read that is a good deterrent for most big animals.
Probably have to have a pretty strong shock for a bear to be stopped.

Yes, it would be a challenge for you to keep chickens.

You need some Killer Roosters to protect the flock!

i've seen some big roosters at the local Poultry Congress, but none that big! you could always get a pair of peafowl! i've heard they are good at helping to protect and sound an alarm when there's a predator in the area!

Nah !!! not from Texas... just around the bend and up the hill from Marshall's cabin . Just one of the pet roosters of those BIG FOOT KIDS that came down and grabbed one of the camper kids so that they could play that this kid with instead of roughhousing with him !!! :caf

I have a red sexlink hen that lays at least one big egg like that per week. She's a relatively new layer, has only been laying about 2 months or so. One or two of them have been double yolkers, but mostly they are just big eggs with huge yolks inside! I feel sorry for her when she lays one of these.

I have a barred rock and an Easter egger that sometimes lay really long, pointed "torpedo" eggs, too.
