Well I'm glad to see some companies are taking the initiative to go ahead and label on their own. Though they are probably just using it as a sales gimmick, I'm sure some people seeing it for the first time will actually be informed and learn about GMO's from a package label.

I find the statement that it helps reduce the use of pesticides disingenuous. Sure, you don't have to use pesticide in a spray if the pesticide is built in as part of the genetic makeup of the plant but then how do you avoid eating it?

EXACTLY!

I berated DH for planting monsanto corn...he rolled his eyes and made the good point of "and how far would you like me to drive to find an ag selling any OTHER brand of corn seed?"
I then proceeded to guilt trip him for killing our land by spraying all the crap he does every year. He invited me to hand-weed his 100 acres...
He's impossible!

Good thing I dont let him put anything on the garden! He wanted to scoop up the fertilizer that the ag spilled in our field and apply to the garden. My response may have frightened him a bit...

Again, the most popular GMO choice product wasn't listed... but the one where the mutations make it invulnerable to round up! I mean... ROUND UP!? GEEZ... I wouldn't want to eat anything that wouldn't die from that stuff.... I would die eating that stuff!!! And all the weeds that are now genetically changing naturally so the stuff can't kill them anymore. :/

The big AG companies already bought out every seed company they could get their hands on; not to operte them for profit (which would be fine) but to kill them off. The only ones left are the small companies that specialize in heirlooms.
Now they are putting out the scare that by sharing heirloom seed we are spreading diseases. How long till they convince Congress to make that illegal? For our own good, of course.

Fair question, what was your answer?

Good thing I dont let him put anything on the garden! He wanted to scoop up the fertilizer that the ag spilled in our field and apply to the garden. My response may have frightened him a bit...

LOL my answer was "if the guy in town with hundreds of acres who farms all organic can manage weeds, so can you!"
DH and I like giving each other a hard time, he gives me crap about my chickens, I give him crap because he looks at his corn field 3 times a day...its a healthy, crap-giving relationship.
