I'm seeing dandelions growing all over my front yard right now. What is the best tool for getting down there and digging them out? I don't want to spend hours on my hands and knees in the front yard, but I do want all those dandelions gone.

I am not even sure what kind of tool you would use to get rid of dandelions. I would be interested in such a tool, too! I swear the dandelions in my yard breed like rabbits. :) One day there will be two dandelions, and the next day your yard is yellow. If all else fails, use the pests to make dandelion wine. :D

Weasel or Ferret?

They use to advertise a yard tool on television that had a funny name. I am thinking it was called a Weasel or maybe Ferret? It dug weeds out of the yard. I was wondering if anyone remembers the tool and knows if you can still buy one?

Tess, I have seen that same tool but can't remember the name of it. MrsGreenJeans, you could also use a good weed and feed fertilizer that specifically targets dandelions. Talk to someone at your local Lowe's or Home Depot. They should know and that will save you lots of hand and knee work.

I vaguely remember hearing something about that tool too, although a weed and feed fertilizer is a much easier option.

When I was a kid, my mom paid my brother and I one cent for each dandelion head we picked. Little did she know we would pick 5000 between us!

Dandelions and yard weasels

I think the tool was called a yard weasel, but I can't be sure. I do remember it. I am thinking of putting in a totally new lawn that doesn't have any weeds in it and see how long I can keep it that way. I know it will be expensive, but it's something I'd really like to do.

Dandelions

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to check into the yard tools and then get out there the first pretty day and start working. I want to get them before they grow tall and get those seed heads on them.

Organic corn gluten meal can inhibit seeds from germinating in your lawn for several months - much better for you, your family and the environment than weed and feed products.

Despite what seems to me like exhaustive effort this summer to rid my small garden of dandelions, they seem to be growning even more.

My lawn has loads of them all over. What is the best way to get rid of them, should I be digging them out or spraying them with a weedkiller? Any helpful suggestions welcome
