These are 5 plants that I love for there spunk - and I cultivate them generously for there weed suppressing abilities; they outcompete weeds, and I highly recomend them to others who grow in my zone....

- Chimney Bluebells - Campanula -
A perennial wild Bellflower that is tall and spindly, but pushy, and prolific underground - they spread very nicely by root. They are also the most perfect shade of blue, and look nice with Primrose....

- Ozark Primrose (sundrops) - Oenothera -
Another wild perennial, the Primrose is a beautiful lemon yellow, but you can't see the forest for the trees. This plant has amazing foliage - spear-shaped, sprouting up purple in the spring, turning red, then green all season, the bright red in autumn. They are more powerful than most weeds, but they poke around a little bit in the spring before growing substantially.

- Lady's Mantle - Alchemillia -
This is a very tough little perennial, seemingly built for war against all other plants. Be careful with it - it does not only suppress weeds, but is somewhat dangerous to your other flowers. It can become an invader, too. Be cautious when you plant it with Primrose - they compete with eachother and end up killing each other. (LM sends up shoots quickly, and shades out the still small Primrose, but if the primrose lives, it grows tall and spreads out, and becomes a threat to the LM)

- Yarrow - Achillea -
This is considered a weed by some, but I like it. This is the most petite perennial in this list, but it still can be planted in huge masses, creating a dramatic effect, both esthetically and physically.

- Virginian Stocks - Mathiolla -
This annual was just built to fight for power. Even the seed packets specifically tell you not to thin them so the sprouts can fight amongst themselves - if it doesn't kill Stocks, it only makes them stronger.

Well, does anyone have any weed suppresion plants to add to the list?
