I dug a young pecan tree up earlier today and transplanted it into a large plastic planter until it perks up enough to be planted in the ground. Do I need to cut the top portion where the leaves are drooping or should I leave it alone? I got almost all of the roots so I'm not sure why it's drooping. I've given plenty of water.

Some plants just go into an instant shock when you dig them up. Did the tree have a taproot that you had to break or cut? Some plants protest mightily if you break their taproot. I don't think I would cut the drooping leaves just yet. Take care not to over water it. You might try misting the leaves, to see if that perks them up. Don't set the pot in direct sun for a while.
There are lots of people on here who know more about trees than I do. Maybe they will chime in.

Many plants droop after digging them up, it's not normal for them. You're changing the soil temp and moisture instantly. Just like when you dig up weeds, they wilt right away, even if you pot and water them.
Just leave the tree alone or go ahead and plant it now, water, feed and leave it alone then.
