transplanting royal empress

I live in dfw area. Transplanted 4 two year old trees. Was able to get two ft diameter root ball. Did cut some roots. Was just wondering if I should cut them to the ground or wait it out until next spring. They have gotten tons of water lately. Hope it isn't too much.
please no haters of this tree. Just looking for helpfull feedback.

"In the 1800s, the Chinese used the seeds of the royal empress tree to package fine China to prevent breakage in transit. Sometimes the packages would break open, or somehow allow the seeds to escape which is one reason why the royal empress tree is prolific in areas not native to the species."
