There could be recreation treats ... but, it's winter! Outdoors is pretty much "out" for me.

If you enjoy treating yourself to outdoor activities, feel free to hijack this thread to tell us about them. But ...

... it's the holiday season!

@so lucky once said that I was more persnickety than some about my coffee. Those might not have been her exact words but she referenced an uncle who would use hot tap water to make his instant coffee ... nooo! Not while one can so easily set the exact second when the beeper goes off on the microwave ... Of course, her uncle may have pre-dated the time when microwaves take up space on our counters. I know I do - and, I'm still trying to learn "best practices" after, what is it, 35 years?!

Anyway, I just realized something this morning: I use treats like coffee as motivation when I'm busy. I use winter treats to keep me from being bored!

But hey! I'm practical. Yes. These are little, daily things. Often the goodies are from gardening and seasonal and to share with DD ... to lure her over in her busy schedule. If DS can risk the highway travel, maybe he will be up soon, on a too brief holiday vacation. Gotta hone those holiday baking skills :)!

So, my second cup of morning tea will be double strength and with hot milk! Then, I'm making Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Bread!

What are you doing for treats??

:) Steve

Our favorite holiday treats are shortbread. Also each year in Christmas even my aunt brings everyone Carmel, fudge, and little round pretzels with some filling and a mint M&M in the middle.

For years I've been making tamales at Christmas time. I'm starting to slow down on Christmas stuff and wasn't really planning on making any this year. They are labor intensive and I was giving them to my parents. Not sure if they even liked tamales or even appreciate the work that went into them. But Bianca asked me if I could make some and she would pay for the ingredients. She wants to give them to some of her special clients as thank you gifts. So, I guess I'm back to making them but from now on, they will only go to really special people, like my salsa. :p

I'll also make champurrado. It's a chocolaty drink made with masa harina to thicken it.

Mary

p.s. Let's see how long it takes Thistle to ask for some! haha

Well !

DW shooed me outta the kitchen! She's making bread, with her favorite recipe, and already has "grandma's" ciranamanamanmom ummm buns rising here in the living room, where I've been consigned space.

This can't go on too long because we are off to shopping and she has already complained about the steamed pumpkin in there in a bowl! I'm getting back at it ... sometime soon!

"little round pretzels with some filling and a mint M&M in the middle." Those are the glazed pretzels, @Poka_Doodle ?

Steve, I'm coming over to hang out with you today. Love cinnamon rolls, all that baking and shopping! I'll pick up Thistle on the way. See you soon! :)

What could be better than homemade tamales with cinnamon rolls for dessert?
I'll be waiting by my mailbox Mary, you won't even have to slow down, just throw that door open and I'll leap in!

Fresh, hot bread is my favorite treat no matter what the weather is. But I have NEVER been able to master it to get anything more than 'passable'. A friend down the road a bit is a WONDERFUL baker. We are trading this weekend - she's coming over to give me some bread baking lessons and I'm giving her a bottle of thieves oil.
And - perhaps by then there will be a bit of fresh homemade butter to go with that bread!!

(... seems like I'm getting out WAY better on this deal..)
