Went out to dinner at a place call City Limits last night. They always have unusually items on the menu. Special last night was cold beet soup, was good but had a after taste I couldn't place. Don't think i would order it again, but glad I tried it.

Borscht....never had it and never wanted to. Beets taste like dirt to me, so I can only imagine cold beets tasting like cold, wet dirt. :sick

Good for you for being adventurous NYboy. I'm with Bee on the borscht, or any cold soup for that matter. Soup is supposed to be hot!

If your having cold pureed vegetables then that's a smoothie. And trust me on this one, veggie smoothies are taken daily here, but we drink them down in a hurry to get it over with. No sipping and lingering over it to savor the blend of flavors! :sick

After years of thinking I hated beets, I was wrong love roasted beets !!
Good going! You are coming around, Nyboy, to the better things in life. We love beets! I add sweetener for the Grands at first to get them interested, but now it is just cooked beets pure and simple.

I have never tried borscht, but I knew what you were talking about right away. Polish delicacy. Uncle John Koroncowitz used to have mashed potatoes smothered in beets. YUM! I loved it. I might have been the only cousin to say that, but it was delicious.

I might add that I've found beets grown in clay soil to have a slightly better, sweeter taste than what I can grow now in my loam. Just saying.
