Hi,
i'm noticing that some of my tulips are starting to grow but i noticed that the foliage has been chewed off, i'm pretty sure it was a squirrel. Just wanted to ask what could i do to stop these guys from eating the tulips?

Thanks!

you could try sprinkling lotsa ground black pepper around them -- I do this when I'm having problems with raccoons and skunks digging up new transplants, dunno about squirrels.

Make sure it is not slugs. Last spring my tulips coming up were getting lopped off by slugs (took people from TEG here to identify the culprit, in fact!). The solution there, insofar as there *is* a solution, is to make sure that mulch is pulled well back from the plants.

Good luck,

Pat, with 6-8" of snow over solidly frozen ground and no possibility of tulips for another month and a half or two months.

if it was a slug problem i think it would be easier to control, well their was a piece of the chewed leave still lying next to the tulips so maybe it might not be a squirrel because they like to eat tulips?

I will try that black pepper.

Thanks and i wish you luck with your spring flowers!
