Umpqua CC Shooting

Yesterday at 10:38 AM ... 911 calls started to come in of gunfire at Umpqua City College. After over 8 hours of nonstop reporting on all local TV stations .... I must say that they didn't report anything new that hasn't been said in the first 15 minutes. Full of erroneous and sensationalist statements, references to the other shool shootings, etc.. The only thing new that was reported after 8PM was when the unidentified government official , who was not authorized to speak publicly informed the gathered jounalists that the shooter, a 26 year old Chris Harper Mercer , demanded his victims state their religion before he started shooting the Christians. One of the HEROS of the terrorist take down on a train in Germany was from Roseburg, Ore. ( home town of Umpqua City College ). A student , a former veteran, rushed the gunman in an attempt to stop the unslaught was shot 7 times, but is now recovering in a Hospital. The shooter was killed by police during a shootout. Meanwhile, obama in an angry voice, is spouting off on his message of gun control in his statement of outrage by about 2 in the afternoon , before any information about the gunman was even known. Possible Religous terror event ??? Guns are only a tool and do not kill people, people do !

I was sickened by the news that appeared on my FB page about the shooting (it comes in faster than the Sacramento Bee does to my email)

Also sickened by the notion that we American's are helpless against it all.

If teachers were armed and able to shoot back, it would stop a lot of this shooting helpless people. Best place to murder people is where you know they are prohibited to carry weapons.

Have you noticed (I did with this tragic event's reporting) that pistols and rifles are a thing of the past? Today it is hand GUN or long GUN. I suppose that is to insure plenty of references to the work GUN should someone want to do a search in the future.

Bob you are so right about erroneous reporting, last night on car radio report was 20 killed, today number is down to 13. They kept saying the same thing over and over, nothing new added.

Update ...after listenening for an hour's worth of TV reporters and reporterets over 3 networks and noon news... The 26 year old shooter was kicked out of military basic training before he finished the training. He was mostly a loner , had no girlfriends and had always had strange behavior according to neighbors who lived in the same apartment complex just 2 miles from Umpqua CC.. FBI said that he had purchased 13 weapons , ammunitions, and a bullet proof vest legally over the years. None of the reporters or reporterets reported that the shooter had asked students if they were Christians and to stand up if they were and then started to shoot them. In an interview with the Military Veteran Student's mother, who spoke to her son at the hospital ... she said that her son came straight at the armed shooter right after he started his shooting spree and started to talk to the shooter to cease his activities, whereupon the shooter shot him 4 times, bullets breaking both of his legs, then steped foreward and shot him 3 more times before shooting other students. Today none of the reporters reported this asking if any students were Christians fact ( I saw and heard the original interview with 2 students yesterday where they said that they heard the shooter ask about their religion preference ). However , all of them are stating that the shooter started shooting for " unknown reasons " ............. liberal press at it's best following the liberal party line of selective reporting ?

Many members of the current reigning political party would love to use this as another excuse for “tighter gun control”. The real answer is to promote concealed carry. Most citizens are not rabid killers. If more people carried guns in a responsible manner, idiots like this wouldn't get off as many shots.

Restricting gun carry in certain places, such as community colleges, guarantees that only the bad guy will have a gun.

The shootings we Americans have experienced in recent years have always brought a lump to my throat. I'm sure it saddens the hearts of most of us. It is so sad that we cannot seem to get a handle on this kind of craziness.

I and all of my friends here in the boonies have carry permits and often DO carry a concealed weapon. More often when going to a place where people are congregated or near the city. We also have a large group of like-minded folks who purposely go into establishments that post a "no firearms allowed" sign at their entrance to inform the manager that we will not enter (again) and will not patronize their place of business. Our local fish and game club shooting range is crowded with good people sharpening their shooting skills every weekend. Many weekends the ladies and girls outnumber the guys. I guess we're a bunch of rednecks. Oh well, it is what it is.

I believe that the major contributing factor to these senseless shootings is a breakdown in our society and a general disregard of other humans. Just see the actions of disrespectful people everywhere you go nowadays. Just listen to the filthy language used EVERYWHERE nowadays. We have raised several generations of "I'm special" morons who have not been properly disciplined from infancy. Please do not confuse discipline with punishment as they are two totally different things.

I apologize for the rant but this is my hot button topic.

Yep, It would pay to have security at schools and some teachers could get carded also.

It was just a couple month ago when Ali and Amed showed up to kill people at that shindig, and an off duty police officer set his beer down and Pop Pop~ all was well.

I think the weapons they carried were not form the US.
