I've read the same thing about the creosote leaching, but I've also *heard* that after 10-15 years they won't leach into the soil anymore? Not sure if it's true or not! My parents are using them, they have no termites, and they haven't been getting sick...

Thanks for the responses!! I think I need to do some more research. When I do, I'll give you all an update. I wanted to line the inner track of my horse training ring with them to keep their feet further from the fence, so that I don't hit the fence when I ride. If they do leach, it would be a poor choice because it's right over my well.

That's a really good idea for your arena rail! I've had the same problem with horses getting too close to the rail and bumping me into it or hitting it with their feet (especially with a long-strided horse in a round pen at a high speed). I'll have to keep that in mind.
