Wow, that's early. USPS will even deliver on Christmas, which I think is a shame for the postal workers. What is so urgent that it can't wait a day or two? Unless you're life depends on a serum. And you live in Nome.
I like to give my little town my business whenever possible or practical, so last week when I had some packages to mail and errands to run I went a few miles in the opposite direction of the direction I was headed in to use my local P.O.
A year or two ago when I mailed packages there, the clerk thanked me for using the local office and helping her keep her job. Well I sure don't want anybody to lose their job if I can have something to do to help, so I always go there now.
Unfortunately I seem to time it on their lunch break. From 12:00 to 1:00 they shut down. If I have nowhere else to go that day I'll go home and come back later (but I do grumble about it).
I ended up at the much busier office in town in a long line. I question why when there are at least 3 people that can work the front desk they have to take a communal lunch break for an hour sending people who have things to do away to other P.O.'s. Maybe it's some Fed mandate?
ordered my seeds last sunday, johnny's sent it 2 day priority received a tracking number early monday morning . showed up this morning at 10;34 am....
oh boy oh boy....rats have to wait a couple more weeks before starting some...
around last week i heard just before 7am footsteps on the porch & then they quickly left. then i heard the usual sound of the USPS truck pulling away. something about their sound is unique and i recognize it right away. i ran out to see what it was and one of the gifts i ordered for my nephew arrived!
UPS/FedEx have been flying throughout my neighborhood the past few weeks. you can tell from the sound of the trucks which one is coming. the clattering/knocking of the engines from the trucks going to stop to the whine of them as they fly by!
My dogs have a different bark for whoever it is. I don't even have to look.
Gator used to bark when he heard the UPS truck clear around the corner when the trees blocked any view of who was coming. The FedEx driver gives them goodies so it's a different happy bark. They are used to my USPS driver Rosie, and never bark when she pulls up to the house.
She and DSIL were coworkers and left their jobs together only a couple of weeks after the wedding. Now their jobs are separate, probably as they should be. DSIL, however, now works for the postal service where his father has worked for 30 some years. He has recently moved from Boise north but they aren't in the same office.
There are perks. If I understand right. After so many months, they qualify for free uniforms. Those come with shoes. Dad's in some kind of supervisor position. Son is out pounding the pavement, or ice, snow and mudpuddles. Dad and son wear the same shoe size ...
Son may have to work Christmas. He already works on Sundays and makes deliveries.
