I planted potatoes in a big tub earlier this spring, and then thought it was too wet, so I took out the eyes, and planted onions instead. Well, I looked at the onions yesterday, and lo & behold, there were some nice looking potato seedlings. Is there a chance of them surviving if I move them? I'm going to anyway because there's not enough room in there with the onions, but I'm curious about the chances of them surviving the transplant.

They might survive. I'm not really sure though. Some things transplant really well and others never really recover. I've never had to move a potato so I don't know. Be sure to let us know how it works because I'm curious now too.

When I planted my potatoes I had way more than I had an area ready for, so I brought the rest inside and planted them in containers. In a very short time I had plants sprouting in the containers inside but nothing going outside. I took about 2 weeks before I was able to move the plants outside and I still didn't have any plants showing that were origionaly out doors. Only about half of my origional outdoor planting sprouted but 100% of the transplanted ones are going great guns.
So the answer is, yes you can transplant potatoes.

People say I'm getting crankier as I get older. That's not it. I just find I enjoy annoying people a lot more now. Especially younger people!!!
