Here in Tucson we have a program where you can go and get 60lbs of produce for $10.00 every week. My neighbor got a couple flats of tomatoes one week this last winter. She shared a flat of them with me. I made tomato jam.

Just for grins I took the seeds and threw them out where my chicken coop used to be... And I believe about every seed sprouted! I thinned them out and now have quite a few plants. I do hope they will produce some tomatoes!

It's definitely worth a try. :) As long as the plants look healthy, you should get a harvest from them. I always have a few come up in the compost pile each year, but they don't live long enough before the first frost to ripen any tomatoes for me.

The fun will be in seeing what kind of tomato and what variety you might end up with. If they were hybrids, you don't know what you will end up with!! If they were heirloom tomatoes they should be of the same and stable as long as they were not crossed! But, either way, I hope they do well and you enjoy those tomatoes! :)

They are all getting flowers on them!! I am excited to see what kind they will be. They were from a sort of large cherry type tomato.

I found some years, the volunteer tomato's produced better than the seedlings I have purchased.

That is a great deal, getting 60lbs of produce for only $10. Do you get to choose what you want or is it a pre-selected box, or ?

Here is a link to the program, you might have one in your area.

Most of the produce is ripe and ready to eat NOW... so if you freeze or do canning it is a good thing. Or share it with your friends if you can't eat it all right away.
