I think of this guy, Craig LeHoullier (AKA NC Tomato Man), as the expert on heirlooms. He is not only a very well-educated man, he has spent a good many years celebrating the growing and enjoyment of tomatoes!

Recently, Dr. LeHoullier, chemist and tomato gardener, went off to the tomato tasting at Seed Savers Exchange. Here is his blog post:

Decorah, Iowa - part 2. The Tomato Tasting

I thought his rundown of what he enjoyed there was worth sharing. There was a variety that he liked that I haven't considered for my garden before - Egg Yolk!

One thing about any crop as far as taste goes....I think taste changes with growing conditions and locale. And personal taste...But I like hearing from the experts.

Well, right you are, Cat!

And, some people are tolerant of things like splitting and low production.

I just think that Craig "gets around" more than anyone that I know of in the heirloom tomato world. NC folks have a chance to meet him each spring when he sells plants at a farmers' market. Then, he has a local event during the summer for taste testing. This time, he was off to something of a "geodetic base point" for US seed saving.
