for a fall harvest. My question is, can I put them outside? The temps are in the 90's already and looks like it will be that way for the rest of the summer.

I would try it- do you have a space that is protected and not in full sun?

This time of year you can plant them right into the ground and save the trouble of starter pots. Seed a lot more than you want to take care of casualties and then thin to the healthiest ones.

Trouble is, I don't have any room in the garden right now!

Isn't it funny? In early Spring it's "Look at all that bare ground. I've gotta get something planted there" Then by mid Summer it's"Where the heck can I find room for this?"

Just stay where you are. If the climate change people are right the longer growing season is headed North. :coolsun

Oh, I really need to move south!!! I want a longer growing season!!!!! :)

I'm so jealous!
Tell me about it. I am just finishing planting and they are complaining about not having enough room for their "second garden" plants. A second garden here is when the crows eat all the seed you planted the first time and you have to plant more. I won't even be harvesting anything for another 5-6 weeks. I just get to look at their pics and think happy thoughts.

Last year I planted some nice size cherries tomato plants mid way with mixed success. So I planted two in early August thinking it was ok and they died. Almost immediately. I think it was just too hot. But I took cutings of those and planted them in the first week of september and those grew to be really big great plants. The only think I can complain about is that they didn't really ripen. But the plant was still blooming in to mid -December.

So I think you can start seeds now considering your a bit north of me and maybe plant them in early mid August with some success and if they are early season tomatoes you should be ok.

I am just about to take some cutting now for my fall crop. I two open 8 x 4 beds due to poor planning and death (squash and the vine borer). And since nothing will grow in this heat I should have them ready for a mid August planting. I am also going to start some more cukes. I will plant beans in Late August for a fall crop.
