And here was a lady saying, "Trees don't take care of themselves..." Than she was identified as a "forester" for the city of Austin, Texas. Now there was an unbiased opinion if I ever heard one.
She obviously hasn't seen the trees that volunteered to fill my back 20 acres. Certainly grew with no help from me! It took nearly $2000 to get them out so the acreage could be planted.
What she means is: If you spend hundreds of dollars on a large tree, you plant it in a tiny green spot surrounded by concrete, and assault it with the pollution from thousands of cars, trucks, and buses daily, you can expect lots of problems getting it to grow and flourish.
Me? I buy the baby seedlings, plant them in fresh country air, and watch them grow into the size sold to the cities for terrace trees.
