I've planted watermelons and cantaloupes in my SFG, and basically every seed has sprouted. I need to thin them, and am thinking of transplanting them into some large containers. Anyone grown these in containers?

Yep i have, then when the seedlings get their first couple true leaves you could transplant them to their planting spot.

I have watermelons, cantalopes, Armenian "Tigger" melons and banana melons in containers right now. My container of choice? The tried and true "old tire" planters.

There arent many things you cannot grow in containers.

Right? My DH says, "We already have watermelons and cantaloupes", and I told him I couldn't bear to just throw them out.

He says, "The whole pack of seeds only cost about $2.00...what's the big deal?".

If you have to ask, I cannot explain it to you...

Exactly. Gardening is about the future, about potential and essentially self-creation. Each garden reflects the maker and you reinvent yourself, along with the garden, each year.
