I am planning on putting my cucumbers on a trellis this year. This is a first time. I also put a trellis up for my gourds. Is there anything else that can be trellised? I am planting watermelons, squash, pumpkins, but I am afraid that these are too heavy.

There is a way to do heavier fruits. Obviously, you need a sturdy fence or trellis- then as the fruits appear you need to support them. I have seen this done with stockings. I am sure you can find some info on the web about exactly how to do it. Have fun!!!

I am trellising my cucumbers and cantaloupe... I'm planning to trellis my watermelon as well (I bought a smaller earlier ripening variety so these aren't getting 20lbs!!! )

Along with a sturdy trellis or fence for heavier fruit, I saw they suggested using hankerchif or old nylon stalkings to wrap around the ripening fruit to tie them up to the trellis while ripening.

All winter I eat clementines! I just love them. :throw Here in the UK they come in 1 Kilo nets of fruit. I keep these open-work nets all winter for supporting any vine fruit or veg that need more support. One more instance of recycling! I have a pile of them ready in the kitchen cupboard !! :celebrate

I already have them started but I haven't planted them in the garden yet. I think you have to trellis them or they don't grow straight and they aren't as easy to turn into birdhouses. This is my first year for gourds so I am still working on the trellis'.

I'm trellising my cucs, both "English" and pickling, my pole beans, watermelons and crook-necked squash. I have decided to stake my toms this year instead of their usual trellis.
