We have a pond on the property here and about a month ago a friend was out here fishing and left me with about 2 1/2 dozen minnows. I wasn't planning to fish any for a while , so the minnows went into a plastic barrel that holds about 20 gallons. So I've been taking water out of the barrel to water seedlings and other stuff that isn't ready for fertilizer. The baby tomatoes really seem to like it! I guess it's probably a little like using fish emulsions but a lot weaker. I fill the barrel up every couple of days and then just dip some out when I need it. Kind of makes me want to put in a Koi pond so I'll have more "fish" water!

In our garden it is all about the duck (pond) water! Honestly, I was a little afraid to try it at first, but figured out real quick that it is like organic miracle grow. :)

A friend of mine does this with his koi pond water---says the muck at the bottom is like black (slimy?) gold!.

Now, in addition to my other 47 projects, I need to design a pond....

This is interesting. If I get a rain barrel, I will have to look into this. Any idea how many fish it would take, or if they would be able to find enough to eat? Also, how could you prevent them from going out the spigot?

There is something here called "rosy reds" they are kind of like white minnows, I would assume that they would work? Or how about goldfish?

Here is a thread that I started over on BYC, let me know if you have any more information or advice for me. http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=167234

Thanks!
