He really hasn't done much whining and he certainly isn't alone there in the great state of California. Really, it is the entire West but some areas, like here, are in the 90% to 100% zone - for annual precipitation. Not much snow cover and I sure don't want to see any more sub-zero weather without it, but, we've got a fairly good supply of snow building in our mountains.

Not so with California and other states south. . . this is from about 1 week ago and the numbers are still going down:

It isn't true with my old home town of Medford in that "rainy" state of Oregon. Medford has had right at 8.97" of precipitation this year. The record is 10.43" and normal for Medford is 18.31". As you can see, not every corner of Oregon is awash in rain every year.

Altho' that looks fairly bad for Medford, as you can see from the map, some areas of California are much further below normal for annual rainfall.

Yes, we need rain! Hope we don't go into a drought year again. If we do, this is when I nag everyone to take 2 minute showers or take one every other day :hide I want to save water for my garden.

Mary, Wanna Dance?

Rain Dance I mean.

Let's do a Flood Dance!

But to be responsible about it, we should let the local county commissioners have fair warning about the coming flood from OUR dance!

Moonwise around the Manzanita Bush fire, Loud chanting! Dance until we drop. 7 nights in a row!

Mary and marshallsmyth, I would love to help if you think it's possible. After going through that drought in 2012 I can sympathize with anyone else in that position. I'd be willing to do the dance as long as I don't pull all your rain into Wisconsin as snow.

That would only happen if you don't know how to dance! :D

Oh, wasn't that a great moon again this morning!

I was hoping to have an opportunity to comment on that moon - I know it's off-topic. Sorry!

We have these frosty but not real cold mornings lately and the fog/overcast is kind of just developing about 5am. Great Big Moon in the West!

I don't know! What's that Farmers' Almanac say? Alternative medicine, huh? Rain dance.

Almanac.com has it for San Francisco: Dec 16-21: Rainy periods, some heavy; cool. Then, quite a bit of rain in January. Best I can do . . .

Ha ah yah hikanaaah

a yah yah hopka hikanaaah!

Ha! a yah a yah a yaaaah!

Hau Great Spirit

Fervently we call on sky spirit to love water spirit, and to give life to the totem Salamander!

Spirit stone may you be moist and cool.

Stone spirit love spirit moss...

Spirit of underground water,
May your rivers and aquifers fill from the great mountain Spirits to the East.

Great waters to the west, may pure waters flow to you

May spirit Salmon carry the message

Ha ya hikanaaah!
Hau all spirits to flow great and greater with more waters in floods to tell of warnings.

Smoke fill above the sacrificed Manzanitas. So hot with the message.

See us dance? Until small Mary falls! Until your servant falls!

See us do it each night?

Ha yah hikanaaah!

Since somebody mentioned moon...yes, it is wonderful to have some clear sky to enjoy it. I always figure if those clouds aren't going to do anything they might as well get out of the way!
