Went to visit a friend at work this weekend. They work in a upscale Florist shop in Manhattan. I couldn"t believe they where selling 5 tiny flower stems of Lily of the Valley for $25. My friend said it always sells out at that price. People place them in bathrooms.

Hey, I like to bring bouquets in for the bathroom!

I bought a bouquet for my daughter's birthday about a month ago.

. . . I hope that isn't where she put it . . .

Wow... those are pricey. I accidently planted some and didn't even know I have them until this spring. I'm not complaining... I love them, but I don't bother to bring them in.

I just filled a huge vase with red Gerber Daisies, Red roses & Blue hydrengea from the garden (red/white/blue... thought it was a good memorial day theme with the company who came). And they seriously asked me where I got the bouquet and they would love one for their office! They thought it was a delivery bouquet from one of those sites online or from in town! HAHAHA

I walked out and cut them a bunch to bring home for whatever pot/vase they had. Pretty cheap little walk through the side and front garden took care of that!!! HAHAHA

Looked a bit like this one but with the hydrengeas roses & red rather then white daisies.

Amazing what people will pay, and what you can grow yourself from seed for a couple of dollars.

Good lord. I wonder how much that makes the shady bed near the driveway worth -- you figure 5 stems can't possibly take more than, what, maybe 0.5 sq ft to grow (probably less), times it's not even a very large bed so let's say 100 sq ft of lily of the valley, times $25 -- woo hoo, $2500 if only I had a way of getting it to Manhattan in a timely manner LOL.

They keep really, really well in water so shipping can't be that much of a problem -- must be a "charge what the traffic will bear" thing.

(e.t.a. -- the darn things are so weedy, and so shade and (relatively) drought tolerant, you'd think someone could just let them establish in an unnoticed corner of a vacant lot or behind a supermarket or something and make some nice pocket change. Unless maybe rats *also* like lilies-of-the-valley for their bathrooms LOL)

LOL, that's what I thought too, Pat! Once they get going, there's no stopping those lily of the valley. Almost a weed for me too! But boy, they sure do smell nice. Perhaps not enough to replace an air freshener in the bathroom though... I don't think those folks are getting their money's worth either. :gig
